DAEMONI return with their second full-length album, "Black Tyrant". Hailing from the land of Bogotá, Columbia, DAEMONI bring with them a journey of vile and putrid black metal punishment. The opening track, "Moriens Pulsation", begins in the creepiest way imaginable. Some very ominous sounding piano is heard coupled with some demonic sounding voices that seem to completely drag you down into the depths. Almost as if you were smack dab in the middle of "The Exorcist". The vocal work of Helldrakon just brings a complete grittiness that keeps you down into that deep and dark hole. Some brutal blast beats keep the track going as it never seems to let up. The craziness of the song builds up more and more but leads into some impressive guitar solo work, whilst still beating you in the head with blast beats. Even the groan at the end of the track sounds so completely evil. I just love the way the vocal patterns present this grimy theme. There is some chanting like backing vocals on "Abstersion's Rite" that just add to the creepiness of this album. I love the feel of the album. It is a very unsettling musical journey.
"Carnifex Christi" comes in with a very big guitar wail that just leads into some more brutality. There is some good guitar work being done in the small breaks of the track. Things slow down a bit to keep up with that atmospheric feel of dread. "Plagues Embraced" is one of the slower tracks that present a different feel from the rest of the album. Some more simplistic drumming is heard, but what interests me about this track is the switching in guitar style. It has a much more heavy metal type feel to it. I loved the intro for the title track, "Black Tyrant". Some prayer-like chanting is heard that completely gets shattered by the tempo changing right into some wailing guitar work and blast beats. There sheer speed in the drumming of this track is excellent. Elements of thrash seem to be sprinkled in as well. There is also the return of the demonic voices that just keeps that evil theme alive. "Daemonios" is one of my favorite tracks off the album. It is different stylistically than the rest of the album. This is the one to get in the pit with. Just fast blast beating and guitar work that has a more thrashy feel to it. The ending guitar solo keeps that tempo going hard. My biggest gripe with the album is in the production. Once the vocals kick in with the double bass drumming, the guitar sound seems to get lost in the fold a little. But overall, I love the feel of this album. It is a pure atmospheric sound of dread and evil.
