TRIUMVIR FOUL return after two years to release their new EP titled "Urine of Abomination" featuring four tracks of the same title. This EP is gritty Death Metal with a dark atmosphere and a raw attitude.
TRIUMVIR FOUL is one of those bands that you need headphones to listen to because there is more going on in their music than meets the ear. It also doesn't help that their production quality is quite poor. It took me a few listens to truly enjoy this EP. However bad the production is, it actually doesn't effect how much I enjoy this album.
The biggest impression this album has had on me is how they implement their solos into the music. Every track has multiple solos, and none of the solos are particularly interesting. However, they are all done during or are included in vocal segments. The final result is very intriguing because you have the vocals, guttural and sickening, and then you have the solos, sprawling and mad. It's organized chaos.
My favorite usage of this technique is on "Urine of Abomination III" where this crazy solo transitions into a very heavy vocal segment. It was well written and impactful.
The most notable moment on the album is on "Urine of Abomination II" when a groove segment comes in halfway through. The riffs are mostly fast and all over the place, so it's nice to have a moment on the track where everything is simplified without sacrificing the brutality. This section also includes a solo that leads into the vocals smoothly. The song as a whole is one of the better ones.
"Urine of Abomination IV" is notable for its very simple progression. The pace is very similar during the whole song. It is a very fortified song and a great way to conclude the EP.
TRIUMVIR FOUL is one of the leading acts right now in gritty Death Metal, and it seems like they don't plan on changing that anytime soon. "Urine of Abomination" is a heavy and dark EP whose short run-time will have you asking for more.
