Root 'N' Branch
N 'Tribe
Danish Hard Rockers N 'TRIBE release their debut album here titled "Root 'N' Branch" on Northpoint Productions. The band was founded by three members of ROYAL HUNT, and are all fans of 70's Hard Rock, yet aware that it's 2018 so to unite these two things was their main goal from the start. The idea here was to take the vibe of classic rock and make it contemporary, get the best team of musicians around, and record the hardest hitting album possible. Were the goals met? Let's take a listen and see.
"Staring Down the Barrel" leads us off here, with a big stadium rock sound. The verses are easy on the ears...light and building to the chorus, which is a full and rich affair. It definitely has a rocking energy that is hard to shrug aside, and the keys maintain a nice presence as well. The riffing is simple but effective. Guitarist Jonas Larsen plays a slide guitar solo on his double-neck guitar. "Down on my Knees" opens with a clean, classical guitar run that leads to a distorted guitar riff...full and charismatic. Most of the punch comes from the chorus, but that neo-Classical guitar is reminiscent of ROYAL HUNT. The musicianship is really on full display here with the lead guitar talents of Jonas Larsen.
"What Goes around Comes around" is a mid-temp rocker with plenty of balls. It also has sexy swag to it, when the bass guitar is thumping over top lead breaks. "Paint in Black" is, of course, a cover of THE ROLLING STONES, but done with the band's modern twist. I love it. It brings a classic song back to life and relevance today, especially with the big guitars striking amidst the keyboards. Overall, I think the mission succeeded, and the band did bring 70's Rock back with a modern flair. You can tell they are accomplished musicians and they exude confidence in their songs. I was hoping for a few more tracks, but this is some promising work for sure.
