Often old school Death Metal gets infantilized by Death Metal fans, and doesn't get taken seriously enough or the musicianship appreciated enough. But here we have a debut full length album in store by German / Bangladesh based 2 piece band KHNVM, released this March.

The album has lot of character and meat in it, right from the fast paced chaotic "Foretold Monuments of Flesh". The riffs here fast paced, with shades of that thick juicy riffs in place, with neatly placed solos sprinkled all the way through, but its vocals that will catch your attention as they are gruesome and growly as fuck. The riffs have that OBITUARY, AUTOPSY, ASPHYX feel to it, but not quite there in the zone yet. "Invocato Deo Plaga" is much pacier and chaotic in nature, and honestly wasn't impressed by it or not something that I was looking for in this album. Having said that, there are some really good old school Death Metal riffs (and even some cool solos) in there, just enough for you to get into the mild-headbanging mode.

The album gets into the 'real' Old School mode with "Heathen Beast". The riffs are just slow, heavy and perfect. I'm an atheist, but the riff is my God! The growling vocals and the plummeting drum beats work just about fine here, alongside the fast paced riffs. And not to mention the AUTOPSY feel gets closer as each song progresses. The influences of some of these legendary bands can be felt all over the music here.  "Sic Mundus Creatus Est" is a much louder and chaotic fast paced song. The solos overlap the fast paced blast beats and it is then that you know that you are in for a treat here. "Profaning the Ancient Rites" swings between the mid-tempo old school Death Metal riffs and the chaotic fast paced riffs, and tries to balance both worlds, like a giant balancing his each feet on each planet. Some of the solos here slow and melodic, and the heavy bass and drum beats in the background add so much meat to the song here. It's a chaotic war taking place in the middle of a horror movie, yeah weird, but cool.

"Gutted to the Bone" is chaotic and fast paced for the most part, but does oscillate gears through the middle, with some atmospheric Doomy Death Metal stuff in there, with sharp slow solos, continuing all the way through the album. The album ends with another slower one in "Kabbalah of Darkness". The solos are fine-tuned and used judiciously, and the tempo oscillates every few dozen seconds, and its all a worthwhile journey in the 4:51 min song, and what is arguably the longest one in the album too. The when hasn't been re-invented, but KHNVM's Foretold Monuments Of Flesh definitely packs in a lot in its short 28 min long album. It's a modern 2019 spin on Old School Death Metal, with some more chaos and cheesy solos infused. Considering it's a 2 piece band, this is a really great album, and I for sure will keep my eyes and ears open to see what the lads will do in the future.
