EREBOS has been quieter than TOOL since the release of their last full length, Descent to Beyond. The Austrian Death Metal band has been away since 2006! Thirteen years of silence has not only been broken, it' shattered by a hail of blast beats for the band's third album, Heretic. Heretic is a skull rattling affair that has come a long way from the band's earlier demos. EREBOS has fermented the rage they developed in Descent to Beyond for thirteen years, and the rich, ethanol stench is redolent throughout the discography. Coming through angrier, harder, and louder than ever, EREBOS has emerged from their slimy chrysalis a terrifying, flesh-eating butterfly.

Christian "Baby" Lindschinger booms and bellows, channeling all the top Death Metal vocalists before them in thunderous incantations like "Suffocation" and "Putrid Flesh." For the life of me, I couldn't find out the origins of the word 'Blunzngrestl'. But I did find the Austrian word 'Blunzngrostl' which means 'Blood Sausage' more or less. Still not sure if it's correct, though. The epic "Return to Castle Blunzngrestl" sounds like a continuation from "Stench of Blood (Blunzngrestl)" off their 2003 demo. "Return"'s only drawback is that their bridge sounds dangerously close to TOOL's "Lateralus". "Gallery of Pandemonium" explodes with just that; ear-shattering cymbal crashes radiating in great shockwaves and riffs uncut of fat; unctuous. EREBOS exudes FROM ASHES REBORN's philosophy of perseverance through tumultuous times, along with ORDINUL NEGRU's imposing, dissonant background cymbals and blastbeats to make you feel like you're on some inhospitable alien planet.

Heretic is hellishly beautiful, rising from the pits of anguish to bring a thousand-year reign of madness. EREBOS has erupted from their marble coffins, and broken down the mausoleum door from the inside after being at rest for over a decade. EREBOS is back to bury us all.
