Watching You
The Deep

THE DEEP are a London based act that formed from the ashes of 80's band Deep Machine. EP "Watching You" was made primarily because it did not fit the overall theme of their upcoming full length album due out in spring of 2019. During the process THE DEEP lost drummer Fraser Powell but quickly found a replacement in Alan Mogg. With that being said, "Watching You" is a heavy metal powerhouse.
We must attribute this to the haunting vocals of Tony Coldham and the exquisite guitar work of Paul Smith and Mick Feleppa. Drummer Alan Mogg and bassist Phil Reeve do a fantastic job providing the driving force of THE DEEP. Opener "Prepare to Rock" is a rocking and memorable song with a great chorus. It pays tribute to those lost during the Bataclan attacks and it does them justice as it is done with great regard.
"Dead Man Walking" is a kickass, righteous tune that will get your fist pumping. Great message as well as it analyses destiny and making changes for the better. Title track "Watching You" covers all of our fears of "Big Brother" watching and invading our privacy. Easily the most diverse song on the EP, as it steers into traditional doom from the 80's à la Candlemass. Coldham sounding more like a mix of Tim Aymar of Control Denied and of course Ian Gillian.
"Taking Over" is another pedal to the metal song that will make you want to speed down the highway courtesy of drummer Alan Mogg's inspired playing. "Watching You" comes with four bonus tracks recorded live in France during the British Steel Festival in 2016. Taken from their debut album "Premonition" these bonus tracks are not to be missed! I am usually doubtful of live songs but these tracks really shine.
Included as bonus songs are "Premonition", "The Rider", "All I Want", and "Night-Stalker". THE DEEP are just flat out blazing through this epic set. Gorgeous guitar riffs that bring early Iron Maiden to mind are littered everywhere. This was very much a welcome bonus that solidifies THE DEEP as a legitimate band to be reckoned with. The "Watching You" EP is not to be missed and proves to be a worthy appetizer. Coldhams vocals have this aura that calls to Ian Gillian. Superb work by all band members indeed! If you would like to get a New Wave of British Heavy Metal fix, then "Watching You" will help satiate that itch. For fans of Iron Maiden, Dio, Riot, Saxon, and NWoBHM. These guys are going places!
