INOCULATED LIFE is a Denver, Colorado-based Death Metal/Grindcore band that formed in 2017. Their influences include DISMEMBER, GORGUTS, NECROPHAGIST, and INFERNAL COIL along with several others. The band has a very anti-establishment attitude which fuels their music as well as their overall attitude. "Exist To Decay" is the band's first full-length album to date, following up their 2017 EP "In Hope Of Eternal Life". It's not an album intended to uplift or inspire you. This music will get under your skin and seek out your rage center.

The title track "Exist To Decay" features a long intro which is very down-tempo and dark. Then the song explodes into a fury of noise. I was especially pleased with the intense beat of the composition. Eric Gutierrez is a fine drummer who literally gives this song a backbone. Guitarists Kyle Goldsberry and Kevin Ruiz provide just the right amount of distortion to the song to keep it interesting.  Track two, "Birthed Into Purgatory," is very appropriately titled. It's dark, gloomy and full of anger that seethes it's way out of the speakers at you. If there is a waiting room in hell then I am certain this song probably gets played in it frequently. It's definitely a song I would recommend to anyone who is fond of this genre.

Track three, "Suffer," has an excellent intro that grabs you immediately. I was head-banging while I listened to it, no joke. This is a great song when you're having a bad day. It would also enhance any violent video game that you might be fond of. (I intend to play it in the background the next time I play Skyrim.) The guitar riffs at the end of the song are also a nice touch. Overall, a truly great Death Metal track. "Indignation," track number four, is heavily laced with an Industrial tone that I wasn't too fond of. I felt it distracted from other parts of the song too much rather than enhancing it.

Track five is "Murderer's Sky". I have to confess that I wasn't sure about this one to begin with. Then it got REALLY good. The furious tempo of the drums combined with the aggressive guitars made for a powerful assault on the ears- and I mean that in the most complimentary way possible. "Murderer's Sky" would be that one song that I would recommend from this album. It's quite excellent! "Abysmal Fixation.", track six, uses Industrial noise and distortion very effectively, an extremely heavy sound as well as a vocal delivery that let's you know just how angry this band is. I would also recommend this song as one to check out to any Death Metal fans out there.

"Deteriorate," the final song on the album, features a beat that brings to mind earlier bands like SLAYER or EXODUS. It's high-energy and rage... until you get to the middle of the song. Then it slows down inexplicably and wanders into a direction that made me lose interest. The solos toward the end of the song did help a bit, but I was still disappointed by the abrupt shift in energy. It threw the whole song off  which is a shame because it began so well.

As far as debut albums go, "Exist To Decay" is a worthy effort by a newer band. I think INOCULATED LIFE is off to a good start. I'm curious to see what their next album will sound like after they've had even more time to mature and grow more confident with their music.
