From Birmingham, England comes ANAAL NATHRAKH. Formed in 1999 the band started off as a raw Black Metal band but progressed into a Grind/Blackened Death Metal act that sometimes integrates clean vocals into their music. Their latest album "A New Kind of Horror" is one of my all time favorites from the band. The lyrical base for this album is World War One and the atrocities it rought, as well as the modern political state. The album is being released in the one hundredth year since World War One and would like to remind us to never forget as history has a tendency to repeat itself.
The first song I would like to point out is the second track "Obscene as Cancer" with its instant jump into sheer brutality. It's beautifully written as well as insanely metal as fuck. The vocals by V.I.T.R.I.O.L. are insane and his cleans add a depth to the song that is very fitting. The third song "The Reek of Fear" is explosive from the start. The instruments by Irrumator are impeccable and the progression is sick. One thing that surprised me was the Air Raid Vocals. I honestly thought that that King Diamond was making a guest appearance. This is one of my favorite songs hands down.
The fifth song on the album "New Bethlehem/Mass Death Futures" is another I really like. Everything in the song is well written and well placed. It all blends into a mass of unrelenting face stomping Metal. I think new and old fans of the band would really enjoy this track as well. "The Apocalypse is About You!" is the sixth song and really shows off the versatility of the band. To be able to go from easy going Metal to mind melting in an instant is absolutely amazing.
The final song on the album "Are We Fit for Glory Yet? (The War to End Nothing)" is a fitting end to such a wonderful album. It's by far the most epic song on "A New Kind Of Horror". It really seems to have influences from all types of Metal genres. This whole album was insane and I loved every single second of it. I seriously think you should go out and get this one and add it to your arsenal as soon as you can.
