Infernal Coil - Within a World Forgotten album cover

This is a disturbing 35 minutes of concentrated unfiltered obliteration. INFERNAL COIL from Boise, Idaho has released their debut full length "Within A World Forgotten" September 14th, 2018 via Profound Lore Records. Having started out in 2014, releasing a demo in 2016 and an E.P. in 2017, these newbies are have already exceeded my expectations. They sound very seasoned, well, as seasoned as you can get in the genre of Grindcore and Death Metal. "Crusher of the Seed" owns it. This brutal bash fest of ripping, shredding, noise is likely the shining moment from "Within A World Forgotten". INFERNAL COIL posses a similarity that will appeal to fans of REPULSION, ANAL CUNT, EXIT 13, or pretty much any noise grind band that Relapse Records had signed back in the early 90's. Scraping the bowels of hell itself and offering a tormenting and at times haunting atmosphere you can't help but not want to eat someone's face. I'm sure that may not be the inspiration some are looking for, but for the sick, feast on this.

"49 Suns" is a 9 minute and 42-second track. Absolutely relentless. There are moments of sludge, with low-end notes being sustained. It reminds me of a killer toying with a victim. Dunking them underwater, allowing them to resurface, only to dunk them under water gain. The midsection offers an almost eerie silence that is then filled by dark ambient sounds and instrumentation. Darker and crazier than any black metal album intro. "Bodies Set in Ashen Death" begins with some serious guitar screeching feedback. As the band enters is another walk through a torrential downpour of chaos and madness. The perfect soundtrack for the grotesque and macabre. The album itself is bass heavy and very noisy. As it was intended and as it should be. The vocals fluctuate between low death metal growls and typical Grindcore gurgly and raspy throat grunts. Through the wall of noise, however, there is some technical playing going on that should be recognized and appreciated.

INFERNAL COIL is not simply banging pots and pans and strumming any note at high speeds. The drums are a bit sloppy in the sound, but not in the actual playing. Nothing about the audio production is good, but in this genre, it needs to sound murky and dirty. It sounds like a mic'd garage to give it that rawness, but was cleaned up to where everything is audible. Obviously de-tuned, INFERNAL COIL has mastered that perfect low end that brings doom and suffering. They possess that same giddiness when NAPALM DEATH started out. It's absolutely disgusting and I love it. This is definitely not intended for those who aren't willing to take on 30 minutes of really intense and blood boiling Grindcore/Death Metal. "Within A World Forgotten" is extremely haunting.
