Chastain - The 7th of Never (30 years Heavy) album cover

When Thrash Metal and its intricate structures acquire a certain tone of mysticism, there is only place for improvement and more involvement in the themes that have developed Heavy Metal and all of its offsprings ever since Tony Lommi ever played his first low tuned riff after getting his fingers maimed in an industrial accident.

A living example of this is the reissue of the 1987 album, "The 7th Of Never"  by the American Heavy/ Thrash Power Metal band CHASTAIN. The opportunity to appreciate a masterpiece 30 years later provides foundation to the understanding of the notion of Modern Metal nowadays. The opening track "We MusT Carry On" unknowingly becomes an anthem for the whole's band career and its prior development along the years. Having never broken up formally, CHASTAIN have taken several breaks throughout the years, but for the fortune of those of us dedicated to Metal they have never actually called it quits despite having completed other musical and creative commitments of their own, as individual members, but always returning as a band.

The guitar riff along with all the six-string mastery in "827" gave me the sensation of getting up to grab a battle axe to start swinging it around in the middle of a battle ground. This is a masterpiece, seasoned with a bass solo that is actually just the entire bass structure surfacing to the summit of the melody to provide such body to the song that the instrumental outburst achieved makes it, without a doubt, one of my new Metal anthems. To be featured the next time a sudden release of stamina is needed to face one of the daily challenges that might arise in the everyday struggle to overcome. If only I had listened to it back in its original release date maybe it could have provided greater substance to my now inexistent musical education, but then again, it is better late than never. I can't do anything but thank the gods on the shrine of the Metal Temple for allowing me to experience this musical rush. Even thirty years later. From moments like the outro in "The Wicked are Restless" and the instrumental version of "It's Too Late for Yesterday" this is an album of full-scale Heavy Metal Avant-Garde from Thirty Years Ago. Such features make it a legend within the lore of the Metal Temple and its inclusion in the vaults has gained its own place by being outstanding from beginning to end.
