When did you last listen to a new Thrash Metal release? To be honest, it' s been a while for me. I've never jumped on the re-Thrash bandwagon because it seemed always a bit too gimmicky to me (with some exceptions, namely POWER TRIP and WARBRINGER), and when I listen to Thrash it's usually new releases by the greats like DESTRUCTION, ONSLAUGHT, or KREATOR, or some oldies-but-goodies. But I feel like I've been neglecting Thrash Metal for too long and so I welcomed the opportunity to review a Thrash band that doesn't go back to the 80s. Spain has a great scene, and quite well known bands like ANGELUS APATRIDA and CRISIX hail form there, so that gave me hope that this second INJECTOR full-length album might stick.
And well, it just so happened that it did. Like their compatriots mentioned above, INJECTOR are a super tight band that plays super tight and aggressive music. Their sound reminds me of the newer releases of bands like DESTRUCTION or TESTAMENT - a very thick wall of sound with some excellent technical guitar playing and riffs that can have an almost Melodic Death Metal vibe, like on the first song "It Lives". Although the music is mostly pretty aggressive, INJECTOR know how to jazz things up and keep things interesting - you may be surprised by a weird jazzy riff - like the cool VOIVOD lick in the chorus of the title track - or some nice lead guitar playing in any of the songs. The singer's skills don't fall behind the guitar players' skills; his vocal delivery is not too diverse, but he brings in some variation where needed. In the chorus of "Behind the Curtain", for example, Mafy pulls off some classic Heavy Metal singing. The only complaint I have is the length: over an hour of Thrash Metal, that is a lot. (Apparently it' s some kind of local convention, because I've heard the same complaint about other Spanish Thrash bands.) But I can' t think of any song which should obviously be cut (not the last song "Deceived by God" for sure, which is super fun), so I' m not going to be a snob and make a fuss about it.
This is another strong release form the Spanish scene, if you want some badass, not gimmicky, technically outstanding Thrash check this out. To me this release was fun to listen from beginning to end the length notwithstanding.
