Oklahoma based Old School Trash Metal band VOLITION presents their debut full-length violent saga titled "Visions of the Onslaught". The band released a single in 2016 called "Justified Mortality" and followed it up with an EP called "Vengeful Satisfaction". A demo "Crypts of Flesh" saw the light of day in 2017 before the band's first debut album. Cody Creitz and Christian Potter met in 2013 and formed EVIL SACRIFICE but soon changed it to their current moniker. The band's musical influences range from MOTÖRHEAD, SLAYER, VOIVOD, TOXIC HOLOCAUST, EXODUS, and SODOM. They have gone through its share of line-up changes and the current members have formed its most stable version. The band have a loyal following in their hometown and put up intense live shows. The band's debut effort was met with good reviews from critics and fans alike which only bolstered their reputation. Soon after the release of their album, the band signed to Brutal Records.

The album features nine brutal songs with a run-time of just over 43 minutes. The song that introduces the band is "Morbid Devastation" an instrumental track that runs for under three minutes. The song is an excellent introduction to the album and gives the listener a taste of things to come. "Enforce With Violence" starts off with an almost Punk vibe that reminded me of MINOR THREAT. The raspy vocals compliment the riffs brilliantly and although the tempo of the track varies it is an entirely enjoyable song. "Injection Vendetta" is perhaps the song of the album for me. The song begins with a crushing guitar riff that has hints of Old School Thrash and has a Groove Metal quality to it. One minute into the four-minute track, the tempo goes a notch faster. As it reaches the halfway mark, it mutates into a Death Metal monster. "Annihilation" begins with a simple drum melody and a catchy riff. The song progresses at a lively pace before the melody picks up speed. The album ends with the Thrash heavy "Volition". The track is supersonic and changes direction almost at will. A fitting and brutal song to end a savage album.

This is one of the better Thrash Metal albums that I have heard in a while. The band, while paying homage to their predecessors, have not blatantly regurgitated any style. In fact, they play Thrash Metal with their own unique spin to it. Unrelenting and chaotic coupled with raspy vocals and stunning riffs, this album is a no holds barred lesson in unrestrained Thrash Metal. This album has something for everyone — head-banging riffs, Punk tinged passages, Death Metal influenced melodies and guitar solos that are as raw as it is surprising. What is exciting is that the band has settled on a line-up and a record deal. The future looks promising and this is one band that Metal fans should look out for. An easy recommend.
