Connecticut based KAOS REIGN was formed in the year 2013 by Bill Klopfer and Chris Anderson and churned out their first album "Embrace the Fire" in the year 2014 and followed it up with their second album in the year 2016 called "Screaming for salvation". The band claims to be influenced by SEPULTURA, DEATH, SLAYER and PANTERA which has reflected in the way they approach their writing. The band began as a side project for Bill Klopfer and Chris Anderson but soon turned out to be their main band. Bill started out as a vocalist first before picking up the guitar and provides with most of the riffs and lyrics. They added bassist Matt Duggan to their ranks and are determined to remain a three-piece outfit.
The album contains 12 incredible Thrash Metal songs that are as varied as they are Groove tinted. With a run time of just over 55 minutes, I felt that it was slightly on the longer side. The first song of the album, "Selfish Backstabber", is full to the brim with Thrash/ Groove Metal riffs that should please fans of that genre of Metal. The track "Lethal Injection" is a chaotic song to begin with. The song features angry vocals and it takes a while before it sets into its groove. "Criminal Inside" is a mid-tempo song and almost sounds like an ANTHRAX track. "Under the Knife" starts off with a furious riff before a mini-breakdown introduces the main riff. "Punish Myself" and "Isolation Chamber" round off the album in style.
As I listened to the songs on the album, I couldn't help noticing all the various influences on the music. Songs have a healthy dose of Thrash, Groove and Doom Metal qualities to it. Traditional Heavy Metal sounds are also incorporated in to the songs. I also found traces of IRON MAIDEN and METALLICA. The album, however, is quite varied and has strong catchy melodies. Even though one may spot the influences, the album is fun to listen to and is replete with bone-crunching Thrash Metal riffs. So, if you are a Thrash Metal fan, like I am, you will find this album interesting to listen to.
