Crossbones - WWIII album cover

CROSSBONES was formed in Albania back in 1996. The name of the band was derived when the vocalist opened a dictionary and picked the first word on a random page. At that point CROSSBONES was born. With their newest album "WWIII" they are looking to break out of Albania's non-existent rock music industry into the world. "I'm God" begins with a nice guitar riff that sets up the rest of the album nicely. You know what you are getting into from the initial riff. The vocals are clean and more classic rock style, but they fit with the music nicely. I just wished they had more emotion by them. The vocals on this track just seem very wooden.

"Gjalle" begins with another killer guitar riff. Very heavy and deep thrums that might blow your speakers if you're not careful. The vocals have more weight behind them than the previous song. Even though the whole song is in a language other than English, it has a nice vibe to it. I was really getting into this song without understanding the lyrics. At the midpoint of the album is "Messing with the Masses". Again, the musicianship is top notch. This album has some amazing guitar riffs throughout its songs. They are heavy and deep without muddying up the song. The vocals are more minimalistic on this track than previous ones letting you appreciate the music more. A very solid song to keep you interested in the album at the halfway mark.

"Rise" gives way to the drums at the beginning. They are quickly joined by a guitar riff, but you can tell the drums are centerstage for this song. The drumming fades into a nice bass thrum that gives the song a lot of soul. At this point the vocals are what they are. They aren't stellar, but they work with the songs. The shining stars are the musicianship within each track. They do some amazing things with the music on this album, that I feel the vocals don't seem to keep up with. "That Kind of Feeling" is a more subdued song, letting it slowly surround you. Still the music is top notch, as it creates a feeling that draws you in, so you can see what else it has to offer. When the song hits, it comes out swinging with amazing riffs. Again, the vocals are the weak point in the song, but they don't bring this good song down.

"I'm God pt. 2" is a continuation of the first song on the album. Like I have said many times before the band knows how to pull together a nice sounding song. This song has so much emotion in the music that they could have completely left out the vocals and had a stellar song. Again, the vocals bring the song down in my opinion as they are the weak link, and never really seem to mesh with the song. Musically this was my favorite song on the album. Overall, the album was a good album. I have stated many times before that the vocals are the low point of the songs, but that shouldn't deter you from giving this album a listen. The musicianship is always good and sometimes amazing. It will be interesting to see where this band goes from here.
