ECTOPLASMA hail from Greece and they take hard notes from other acts that grace their country like ROTTING CHRIST and SEPTICFLESH with their all-encompassing, furious lyrics, and python-constricting chords. Their sound is imposing, frenetic, and sadistic in all the good ways. They only pause their abuse to play creepy sound bites from old horror and sci-fi movies. "Cavern of Foul Unbeings" starts things off suspended in amniotic sound in "Amorphous Atrocity" full of dissonant reverbs, labored breathing noises, and a strange, possibly parasitic lifeform squiggling about in the ooze. What could possibly be growing in this cursed womb? You may not want to know. With a sudden scream, the tranquil noise explodes like an infected zit in the next track "Entranced in Blood" while Giannis Grim sends everyone running with the growl of a hundred demons. In other words, we're off to a fantastic start. "Cavern of Foul Unbeings" is classic 90s Death Metal; the old guard of stygian progressions, zombified vocals and cymbal heavy percussions. The one thing different is the production on "Cavern" sounds a lot cleaner. ECTOPLASMA leaves you to drown in a river of boiling blood like in the seventh circle of hell, watching you struggle to stay above the surface. The last thing you hear before going under: howling lead guitars.

The title track "Cavern of Foul Unbeings" is a furious headbanger with circle pit-worthy energy swirling about its countenance. "Primeval Haunting" has the fantastic beat of a vast undead army marching to conquer whole swathes of the surface world. Tracks in "Cavern of Foul Unbeings" turn tempo speeds on a dime and treat drums like rapid-fire machine guns throughout the album. I especially love Dion K Alastor's guitars that are able to scream like the choir of the damned. "Reanimated in Trioxin" douses your ears in Napalm with the unbridled rage of Grim's vocals and Maelstrom's drum beats "They're coming to get you/They're coming for you!" Grim ominously warns just before the track ends. ECTOPLASMA does fine justice to UNLEASHED's track "The Immortals" with Grim showing off just how low he can growl.

ECTOPLASMA is a great addition to anyone's Death Metal collection, especially collections showcasing the love for old school. "Cavern" is ECTOPLASMA's sophomore album but they have a handful of EPs and some awesome split albums, collabing with other epic Death Metallers such as HATEVOMIT, ANARCHOS, SOULROT, CARNAL TOMB, and ROTTEN HATE. ECTOPLASMA has no shortage of rage-filled anthems and noise in their blackened hearts, let's hope they keep that rage going.
