In 1993 (or was it 1994?) I received a parcel from a record-collecting contact of mine in New York. At the bottom of the vinyl LPs I had ordered was a sleeve I didn't remember ordering it; did not even know this cover. Blue Tears was written on top. Took a look at my associate's letter: ...This is a Tennessee band. There in Europe, you might not know this album's existence but I bet my ass you'll love this one and pay me in your next order. If you don't like it, don't even send the money... One month later, in my next vinyl order, money for 2 copies of this album was extra included. One for me and one for a new copy heading to a friend, who was left with his mouth hanging wide open while listening to Blue Tears and died to get his print too.
It's true that playing this kind of melodic Hard Rock in 1990 and onwards was not the best move a band could do. The glory days of L.A., Sunset Boulevard and Hair Metal were fading severely and the 'shitty' bomb of Grunge was just starting to stink. Blue Tears was released by MCA, yet I don't know what kind of an impact this album had on the ears of Hard Rock lovers. Tough days back then... Despite what might have gone wrong back then, this quartet's one and only - 'till now - release can easily be considered as a must have for everyone into all these bands that contributed to what we now refer to as Melodic Rock - I'd say these guys were the perfect mix of Def Leppard, Autograph and Firehouse, if you want my opinion.
Mad, Bad & Dangerous: sixteen songs from more than a 30+ set of tunes destined to challenge for the band's then 2nd album, sixteen cuts with the dominant feeling that this band was capable for much fuckin' more. Aussie Sun City Records label took the chance to release this material in a comp CD, while there's strong rumor 'bout a third album heading down on the highway. Till then, take this: crystal promotion, fresh air, great mood, party 'vibe', optimism, great hooks, frenzied guitar work, fine vocal melodies, heavy rhythm section and a tendency to 'threaten' top acts of that time. Not a single bad tune, even if - referring to everyone owning their self-titled debut - Mad, Bad & Dangerous is one scale below their amazing 1990 'unveiling' release.
It's with great surprise to see that the band will be playing in this upcoming November's Firefest II in England (rumors float for a bonus appearance in Greece, also). Hope this release along with these gigs will push up Blue Tears' esteem, since I really believe this band's bonded to nice Hard Rock music. C'mon, Rock with Blue Tears!
