Hello Metal-Temple, I have the honor of bringing you the newest from AMBERIAN DAWN today. The band from Finland has been around the block you can say, but up till today, I haven't heard of them since they're mostly touring the other side of the ocean. As they are releasing their 8th full-length album to date, we can say this is the band's peak years we a witnessing. From the first note of the album I was blown away.
"I'm The One" is set to a classical melody that will make you feel nostalgic right away. I think this is a great way to set up the atmosphere. They had my full attention right from the first set of note. Then, the enchanting vocal of Capri grabbed me by the feelings and didn't let me down until the end of the song, or the end of the album I should say.
This is the 4th album with Capri as the lead singer and I feel like she is blooming as the centerpiece of the band. Surrounded by masterful musician that simply enhance her vocal abilities. "Dragonflies" shows the wide variety of her vocals. While the melody is heavier, Capri deliverers everything she has in stock going everywhere in the spectrum of tone. From high to low, melodic, operatic, sometimes even a bit harsh. Capri's voice is the band's biggest asset.
She is well surrounded though, "Maybe", "Golden Coins" and "Luna My Darling" are played as masterfully as Symphonic Metal can be. With some low key guitar riffs and solo, but always keeping the melody in the forefront of the songs. Punctuated by epic keyboard solos, they are getting way past comparison with NIGHTWISH and EPICA, they are developing a sound of their own.
Close to the end of the album, we are treated to two beautiful ballads, "Breath Again" and "Symphony Nr.1". Again, the voice of Capri is the centerpiece of both songs and it is stunning.
If I have one flaw to give to this album, it would be the unbalance of the genres. AMBERIAN DAWN goes from a heavy and powerful Speed/Symphonic Metal, to a Rock ballad from one song to another. But both are still absolutely stunning. Capri's vocal prowess has won me over from the first phrase she sang. This album is an absolute must for Symphonic Metal and female vocal fans. I can't wait to see this band live, it must be quite a show indeed with such musicianship.
