TONY MILLS is the singer in Norwegian band TNT. After some early Punk bands Tony converted to Rock in the early 80's. He went for the more melodic style of Rock and ended up fronting UK AOR rockers SHY in the late 80's early 90's. The band released a successful album called "Excess All Areas" and toured supporting Twelfth Night, Gary Moore, Meatloaf, Twisted Sister, Bon Jovi, Magnum, Manowar, Badlands etc. I remember getting a SHY flexi-disc back in the day free with Kerrang magazine. I didn't like it. It was very AOR and what could be described as Vanilla Rock. I'm sure they were heavier live though and given the chance I may have enjoyed them live. Since then, TONY MILLS has become a prolific session musician and member of numerous bands on the Melodic Rock/ AOR scene. His voice has certainly aged well and sounds better today than it did in SHY.

The album includes a selection of top class session musicians. Pretty much everyone on Streets of Chance has played for bands we've all heard of. The most obvious of these names include Joel Hoekstra who did time with both WHITESNAKE and NIGHT RANGER. Tommy Denander played with Alice Cooper and Paul Stanley. All the guys on the various instruments put in a totally slick professional performance as expected. The vocals are also slick and perfectly formed. The songs are also slick and perfectly formed. The only problem with the album is that after a second listen I still couldn't really remember the songs or figure out any standouts. It was like listening to smooth audio cream. Pleasant enough but with little memorability.

Opener "Scars" has an upbeat start with strong backing vocals and energy. Not a bad beginning for the album. Pleasant stuff. The next few tracks fly by nicely but in a very similar vein and although Tony has a great voice it is very much the same level and style in each song. I think a standout might be "Storm Warning" as it is a bit more edgy and has a few different sections that differ. There's a good chorus and some great fiddly guitar breaks. This could have been an old WHITESNAKE song and the vocal could have been David Coverdale too. There isn't an over-reliance of keyboards which is good and "Dream On" makes good use of the keys and also the vocals are put through an effect gadget to give variation in the voice. This is a decent track too. "When We Are Young" is a bit heavier with a meaty riff at the beginning. There are some slower numbers such as "The Art Of Letting Go" which builds up nicely into an ASIA style tune.

Overall, I would say that the album is not too memorable and would be appreciated more by big fans of AOR. There is no doubt of the level of musicianship on display but this is a style of music that has been done so well by the likes of FOREIGNER, ASIA or even STEVE WINWOOD and I would turn to those bands for a dose of AOR. However, if FOREIGNER or ASIA are looking for a vocalist or musicians, TONY MILLS and his band-members would fit in perfectly.
