Brazilian Death Metal trio SEPULCHRAL WHORE formed in 2015 in the town of Recife. Signed to Metal Ways Records, they present their debut EP here titled "Everlasting Morbid Delights," which contains seven tracks. "Intro" is a short one minute instrumental that segues into the first track with vocals, "Malicious Conflagration." "Conflagration" means "an extensive fire that destroys a great deal of land or property." This six minute track features some varied riffage and Death vocals that are thick with reverb. The guitars are down-tuned and the vocal chanting passages create a horrifying sound. Unlike some Death Metal, the lyrics are understandable as Necrospinal doesn't go ultra-harsh with his delivery.

"Everlasting Morbid Delights" opens with a brief female narration. Here is where the name of the band is tied into the definition. "Sepulchral" means "gloomy," or "relating to a tomb. She talks about darkness and "on the other side we shall be mingled by self-conceited brethren who run their own ways..." It has an evil sound from using that "Devils Fifth" chord progression made famous by the self-titled song from BLACK SABBATH." It's brutal but lacks a little in the energy department. "In Slumber they Succumb" has mind-numbing slow passages that talk about "dive...into nothingness," and faster passages with a running guitar riff and some double and quad time on the drums. "Rotten Wings of Creation" is a two minute instrumental of mostly acoustic guitar with winds howling in the background.

"Necromancer's Rites" closes the EP. "Entangled in genocide" it speaks of. A harrowing sound ensues with vocals that at times rage hard, reminding me of some of the guitar work in "Hallowed Be Thy Name" from IRON MAIDEN. Overall, it was a decent EP for the band's first outing but I think they can improve on fusing more of their own sound into a genre that has been done, and done some more. The potential is there for sure, as they understand the elements necessary to work in the traditions of Death Metal but we need to hear more of their individualism as a band.
