A new wave of Metalcore is currently conquering the traditional style by replacing the technical rhythms with stereotypical yet catchy electronic and groovy beats. However, there are some bands who integrate some original elements into the music by mixing the complex riffs with the midi beats in the transition. I really hoped to find such stylistic approaches in the sound of PERSONALITIES, a growing Metalcore outfit based out of Jacksonville, Florida. Their sophomore effort "Loose Ends" was self released this year, succeeding their debut EP "Burning Bridges".
"Letters of Departure" has a solid, thick intro that will surely get the blood pumping. The Vocals are executed well, however, I did find the occasional short-lived whispering a bit intimidating as it takes away the groove that the song delivers. Luckily enough that doesn't continue much longer as the song suddenly changes the tempo later on with an Arabic-Trap alike instrumentation that features versatile and fitting vocals. Overall the song that tries to keep the sound as fresh as possible, but in the meantime it consumes a lot of time building the momentum. "Tiny Tim" is an interesting song with a catchy main riff and heavy breakdowns. By the time the fifth track ceases, the last and sixth track "You Were Right" begins with beautifully executed cleans and a euphonic instrumental arrangement - basically, a catchy Melodic number that closes a fairly written 6-track album.
Altogether the band has done a good job, however, analysing their evolution might make it a bit tougher to judge the album. Before starting the new album I got a glimpse of their previous one, which I enjoyed a lot more compared to the newer release. The band does have a considerable amount of flair and talent, which I believe they will utilise on their next release. I cannot conclude by saying that this album is dull and boring but it is a bit of a disappointment compared to their previous release.
