Losin' Grip

Experimentation is a good thing in music, for listening to the same old riff over and over again is tedious and boring. By experimentation I refer to doing something different and totally original, and in a stereotype-ridden music age it's really hard to find something like that. SLOPE are a newer addition to the musical scene. Experimenting with Hardcore/Beatdown, this band is quite fascinating as they integrate Funk and Punk riffs onto a Djenty framework; this is evident from their latest release, "Losin' Grip".
When an album starts with a rather unusual and funky tone, you know something heavier is about to subside. "9/5" is one such opening track, starting with a funky intro the song quickly gains heaviness with breakdowns and thick guitar riffs. In short, it is a perfect track to start an album. I had to admit that these guys do have an original sound that blends Metal, Punk and Funk. As the album elapsed, my love for their sound grew - with third track, "Goodbye Mr. Dandy" being one of my favourite tracks on this album; the solo at the end is what makes this track stand out compared to the rest.
"Buzz Off!" circles around the Hardcore region with heavy and thick instrumentation paired with occasional vocal transitions. Things get nasty when a chuggy and crunchy breakdown hits just when you expect something groovy. "The Void" is and "in your face" kinda closer with energetic and roaring guitar riffs that support the quickly delivered Rap-esque vocals.
This short album cements my hope in BDHW Rec. and SLOPE. This is a perfectly-recorded album with no such major errors; an album where one might not have a second opinion on Everything is perfect and nothing needs to be altered or changed. I hope they will maintain the exact same sound on their upcoming releases for which I'll keep an eye out on.
