ESKIMO CALLBOY released their latest album "The Scene" in August of 2017. This comes after a few previous full-length and EP releases. These guys have been on the scene since 2010 and are born out of Germany. They have Metalcore roots, but with their own twists creating an Electrocore sound. "The Scene" comes in with 14 tracks and a listening time of just over 44 minutes.
The open track, "Back in the Bizz", is the epitome of that Electrocore thing. It's insanely catchy with a Techno electronic meets Metal feel. This is something that isn't technically a 'radio ready' track, but would perform well on the waves. People of all Rock and Metal backgrounds could find this mix of wonderment enjoyable.
"The Devil Within", track three's, intro was interesting and creative. As the track went on, the down tuned guitars and the bass creating that deep "whaa whaa" was mixed perfectly with the Electronica that encompasses this track. This is also a heavier track, not something you would have guessed from the intro. The drums are Heavy Rock style and absolutely slay here.
Track six, "VIP", has a super Pop Punk feeling. The vocals at the start amplify that notion, but the mixed vocals do get harder off and on throughout the track. The lyrical content is kind of a jab at America's rich and famous, and those who want to be like them. The dual vocals also help strengthen the concept of a Poppy Punk track. This is another one that I could imagine hearing on the local Rock radio station.
"New Age", track ten, is my favorite track on the album. While it does have some Electronica, it's not quite as Techno and gives the band a little more staring power. Both sets of vocals are spectacular and give that Metalcore feel. The track itself is a bit slower and heavier but still has an anthem like presence. The guitars are nicely done and propels that anthem like appeal to the overall sound. The drums pound it out, and keep the track anchored in roots. The bass is thick and everything good bass adds to a track. This track kind of gives me a P.O.D feel without sounding like them.
Track eleven, "Frances" is another stand out track. This one has a little more rawness to it. This is exactly what I hear becoming popular on the airwaves right now. It also introduces a female vocal that we haven't heard before. I enjoyed the more subdued Rock style in this one from the vocals to overall musicianship. However, I was disappointed with the follow up track "Rooftop". This one was a miss for me, but there are plenty of people out there that would find this appealing after a softer track such as "Frances".
The final track, "Calling", is a nice exit. It balances the Rock and their breed of music, Electrocore, phenomenally. This is another soft track that lets the album flow out easy. It's an easy and high rated listen; another standout track in an album of many.
ESKIMO CALLBOY's "The Scene" is an interesting take on Rock infused Electronic. There are many tracks that are dripping with creativity and musicianship and there are others that miss the mark. That's not to say they are 'bad'. It's that they have such an array of talent that some of the tracks seem forced. However, this album will appeal to the Rock crowd, over all. Definitely give it a go.
