Emerging from the U.K, HORRIFIED is the new allure of the melodic death metal genre. Their latest album, "Allure of the Fallen", proves that statement. It is HORRIFIED's third album and it is monumental for the band. "Allure of the Fallen" is similar to its predecessor, "Of Despair", but HORRIFIED amplified it and let it soar to great heights.  Listeners will notice the progression between the albums and be satisfied with what's in store. The music is pleasant to the ears with plenty of melodic lines as the foundation. The music is accompanied by vocals that have an atmospheric black metal effect. The tone can be piercing to some. I am not fond of this particular style of vocals, but nevertheless the simple chords and harmonies that are in the songs keep me intrigued. Their music has a way to take the listener out of this world and into a day dream. This combination separates HORRIFIED from others in the genre. The music is reborn. It is melodic yet slow like doom metal; which is prevalent in the dynamic tracks titled, "Unanswered", and "Shorn". HORRIFIED does a superb job tying these elements of other genres together, and creating a new breed of melodic death metal which is found in "The Perceiver". The album closes with "The Promise of Solace," a track with isolated, hauntingly beautiful chords that ascend into melodic assaults.

One major downfall of "Allure of the Fallen" is that it only has six tracks. However, it is redeemed by an eerie, compelling piece of art as their album cover. In this case, one should take the risk and judge an album by its cover. "Allure of the Fallen" will catch you unexpectedly and defy the comfort your ears. Well done.<
