Screaming From The Grave

Iceland might not be a nation commonly known for exporting Death Metal bands, but NARTHRAAL are out to change that presumption. Inspired by classic Swedish Death Metal bands such as ENTOMBED and DISMEMBER, NARTHRAAL are made up of vocalist and bassist Viktor Peñalver, guitarists Birkir Kárason and Tony Aguilar, and drummer Jónas Haux. After releasing two EPs titled "Blood Citadel" (2014) and "Chainsaw Killing Spree" (2016), the band's first full-length album "Screaming From The Grave" has finally seen the light of day.
The necro-centric theme of "Screaming From The Grave" is omnipresent throughout the 10 tracks of the album. "Death Of The Undying" is a no-nonsense opener, an aggressive track that immediately lays down the foundations for a crushing Death Metal production. Growls and riffs annihilate the surrounding atmosphere. The thunderous track "Screaming From The Grave" is another equally assailing contender with its horror-themed lyrical content. The draggy "Million Graves To Fill" makes for a significant change of pace, as it slowly encroaches upon and crushes one under the enormous weight of the surrounding drumming. "Worldwide Destruction" is one of the more interesting tracks on this album, due to its guitar solo, which is particularly reminiscent of traditional Heavy Metal songs.
A long-drawn growl engulfs the opening of "Envy", as the accompanying riffs and drum beats kick in to reveal a bass-filled tune that is equal parts melodic and unforgiving. "Descent Into Darkness" opens up with pummeling drum beats and an assailing guitar solo. Melodic riffs are abound in this tune, weaving between the abundance of guttural vocals and bass hooks. The atmospheric "Feed The Pig" opens up with disturbing pig squeals that soon transition into a sinewy mass of gutturals, riffs and heavy drumming.
"Screaming From The Grave" is a Death Metal album that manages to sound melodic and brutal at the same time. The gutturals are well done and the record comes with a generous amount of solid guitar solos. NARTHRAAL certainly deserve much more attention with the immense effort put in by the band members.
