Aversio Humanitatis - Longing For The Untold album cover

The Spain, Madrid-based Black Metal project AVERSIO HUMANITATIS have been active for seven years now, being currently represented by three pretty anonymous members whose initials are the only thing we know about them. Their discography consists of only one full-length album "Abandonment Ritual"  - which was actually their debut, released through Egg of Nihilism Productions in October 2011.

Since that album, two splits have been also released, one in 2013 and one in 2015. The first was recorded with similar lyrically themed bands NIHIL and SELBST, and given the name "Three Ways of Consciousness"; released through Self Mutilation Services, it had seven songs: three by AVERSIO HUMANITATIS, two by NIHIL and two by SELBST. The second split was much shorter than this one, having only two tracks - one by this band and one by one of the first Spanish Black Metal bands, PRIMIGENIUM. Finally, two years later, the band have released something new, a four-track EP of twenty-one plus minutes, , entitled "Longing for the Untold", released through BlackSeed Productions in early 2017.

Although as you can see the band didn't put much focus into making a lot of songs, I have a feeling that the four of them are incredibly good, but we'll see. The title-track and opener "Longing for the Untold", starts off quite surprisingly, with amazingly low-tuned guitar riffs, wrapped in a dissonant, avant-garde - ish atmosphere, brutal and also low growl vocals, sharp and slowly circling drumming and amazing bass work. In general the song gave me a vibe of modern Black Metal that is not only original, but dissonant, amazing, creative and more atmospheric than ever, and this band is the perfect example of how good newer bands can be. Although this band's may not suggest the presence of avant-garde influences, they still bravely use it a lot and I absolutely admire that. Combining raw sounds with beautiful musical landscapes, I was truly blown away by the energy they are capable of creating.

"Prison of Shattered Glass" is slowed down even more than the previous one, focusing itself on more rawness and even more complexity. Not only the riffs are varied, but the vocals themselves switch between low growls to sharp and twisted screams, reminding you of some of your favorite leads in the genre. "The Ever Shifting Path" sinks even lower than before, but in a completely positive way. Every single instrument gets rawer and more intense, and the vocals are horrifying and disgusting, to a point where everything is just perfect.

There isn't much left to say, the atmosphere is just too amazing for words. If all those mixes and experimentations weren't enough for you, the third song's ending contains a long ambient touch too, making this EP perfect in my eyes. The final track - "Advent of the Inescapable" is in no hurry to prove anything in the first minute, because if you've paid attention, you already know how brutal this EP is; r just re-listen the first three tracks and you'll realize it. The final one combines everything we heard so far, from the dissonant/atmospheric moments, to the brutal vocals, the sharp riff work and bass lines, the furious drumming, and the ambient moments.

Too good, and too underrated. If DEATHSPELL OMEGA, ULCERATE, BLUT AUS NORD, SELBST, UADA, DODECAHEDRON, ETERNA PENUMBRA or perhaps MGŁA had a child it would sound like AVERSIO HUMANITATIS; so if you're into any of the aforementioned bands, then definitely check this record out.
