Well I do believe this is the first time ever I listen to a Power Metal band entirely in another language than good old English. The album cover is pretty nice and it's a stone depicting a new continent. For those who don't know, Neopangea is like a supercontinent, it's another configuration of the alignment of continents in the known world. I didn't what it was before I got this album to review. It's a very nice cover and I loved the fact there is a link between the album name and the album cover. Nice touch. This album is a departure from ''Cosmos'', their previous effort. Without relenting on the traditional Power Metal sound, they tend to be much more guitar driven and there is a much felt darkness about the songs. They seem to be anger and power in the vibes of the songs. I have trouble explaining it but it feels like they ditched a bit of the happy go lucky Power Metal songs for something a bit more darker. You can tell by some of the titles of songs that they wanted to go into another direction for this album.
They keep that speed and intensity but it seems like a more mature effort this time. The production is top notch and I was very impressed. They had some really great foundations for a band in a watered down genre. I have been impressed this year by some newer bands in the genre but sometimes bands seem to be lost in the shuffle because of lack in originality. Well ATREIDES bring a lot to the table and mix in the emotion and darkness of a band like EVERGREY but integrating the raw energy of the forefathers of Power Metal like GAMMA RAY, EDGUY and STRATOVARIUS. I hated the ballad on this album but I understand that there seems always to be some space for a ballad on a Power Metal album. What's the obsession with having something toned down and kinda squashes the rhythm of an album? Anyways, that's my opinion, feel free to ignore it or accept it as it is. It's like the Doctor Who Christmas Specials, I am always saying to myself, what's up with their Christmas obsession every freakin' year? Anyways, let's get back to the album! ''Penitencia'' is definitely my favorite song of the album, it's almost more Thrash Metal driven than anything else. Probably the fastest song they ever wrote and it's a doozy. I love Thrash Metal and was exposed to the genre when I was about 13 years so this always strikes a chord.
Not the most original band out there but so much promise and energy, it's an easy listen and great on all fronts.
