Rebirth
Orijyn
ORIJYN is a Metal band from Kingston Upon Thames, London, UK. All members have been session musicians to other bands and have degrees in music as well. "Rebirth" is the band's debut EP, and contains four tracks. The opening song, "Human Instrumentality" features HARBINGER member Ben Sutherland on lead guitar. It has an assertive and decisive sound, led by heavy guitars and the emotionally charged vocals of Weerasakera. Melodies and harmonies intertwine here, balancing the weighted nature of the song with beaming moments of sublimity. The solo is fantastic, pursuing the rhythm guitar chords with stealth and precision. Progressive elements can definitely be heard here as well...tight musicianship, varied chord patterns...instrumental prowess.
"Trinity" is another winner. The sequence of guitar chords is aggressive and works well with some fierce Death vocals. Underneath the bedlam, they present tasty melodies that stick to your lips, and the clean vocals keep it rooted in nobility. "Still Asleep" is that song that puts the nail in my coffin of feels. It's a superbly written song, full of emotions and pure beauty. The vocal performance is absolutely top-notch. Whoever said Modern Metal is dead should eat their words. It has such an elegant and creative sound, and retains an ardent heaviness that doesn't overshadow the feeling of life and hope that you take away. It's one of the best songs I have heard this year, and I don't think I could ever tire of hearing it. "Cold with a Gunshot" completes the EP. Rounding out the EP is yet another fantastic composition with layers and textures that run deep, and some super-charged energy. It punches you hard hit you hard in the gut while it tickles your senses and awakens your need for intellectual songwriting.
Substance is the summary word that comes to mind for me on this EP. There are far too many bands out there just going through the motions, putting out the same album every few years. It's time to leave that behind, my friends, and seek enlightenment. ORIJYN's "Rebirth" is an inspired EP from a group of musicians who know how to make you feel alive, and wanting to get out there and experience life with no regrets, Isn't that the point of music in the first place?
