Aggression at it's best slaps you in the listening taste buds as you tune into NERVOCHAOS latest release titled Nyctophilia. Upon checking this album out first thing that came into mind was how the record kicked off with fury matched guitars, death harsh vocals to the intensive drumming, holy smokes I was sure in for a surprise. Usually most bands have a way of blending the music out and have some melodic entry way that welcomes the listening guest, but to hell with that NERVOCHAOS gives you start of fresh pure rhythmic hell. One might say they are a band that can show different various chunky beats and yet have that edged backbone that is interesting. Well I would have to say since the group has been around since 1996, been through changes and have released seven albums to date including their latest this makes for a band of determined strength and drive. And drive they do have for they unleash a face frontal fury that is hard to replicate or generate.
Now onto the NERVOCHAOS album review show the group dishes out some extremely crafted music that has pleasing death metal inspired melodies that shake up the senses causing a mental brain mosh of sorts. Mental brain mosh would be the intense timing they have for beats along with the razor sharp guitar riff structures that are none to complicated but deliver some mean shred-ability that is like none other. Showing the aggression that I mentioned earlier first song takes you by surprise and right into their world with track "Moloch Rise", which is a great starter track to get the juices flowing by pumping guitar rhythmic soloing, powerful tempo drumming to the hard hitting vocal fist that embeds itself into your mind. From just that one track I had that song in my head for a few hours on end to which I could not get it out so might as well keep playing it...and other tracks off the record as well.
One might be thinking ah ok so this might be another band with catchy tunes then, in a way it is and a way it isn't. Musically NERVOCHAOS just has a way of putting out some well written music with excellent timing and overall enticing intrigue for they are not just your ordinary death metal act for they seem to embrace some elements of light black metal of sorts. One might get the sense of some early DECIDE laced with some aspects of early DEATH meets SEPULTRA, but there is most definitely a sound to these ones here. Blending chaotic beats along with brutalized guitar sounds NERVOCHAOS creates some hell on earth with "Ad Majorem Satanae Gloriam", "Dead End","World Aborted" and "Vampiric Cannibal Goddess" and pretty much the rest of this entire album. Frontman Lauro 'Nightrealm' vocals stand out to which they range from intense low death growls to high pitched fury which gives a more blackened death metal approach to which this does well throughout Nyctophilia. NERVOCHAOS offers a blended array of different musical structures as far as death metal goes for as I mentioned earlier they seem to embrace the darker aspects of black metal and much more without over doing it like most bands would.
Overall the quality of production is well balanced for you can hear each member in their element drawing out the best qualities that make them unique. Each song in their formats are equally balanced and produce intensity that you can blast your speakers without them shattering because this band is that good. Rhythmically the group has what I call death metal grooves to which they blend perfectly well induced drumming and bass that just suites the group to perfection. Guitars into themselves offer straight forward chaos riffing and soloing that makes one yearn for early 90's death metal, but breathes life into that style with Nyctophilia. NERVOCHAOS songwriting is a complete summation of what death metal is and should be and more. Truly a blessed album that is sure to thrust you into the realms of tomorrow. Excellent work and well done!
