"Lingering Voidwards" is COLDBORN's debut full-length album with five tracks at about nearly forty-six minutes. It is created by Norgaath who is from Belgium. He is an artist that is also active in NIGHTBRINGER, GRIMFAUG, and ONIRIK.
There is a horn-like effect at the beginning of "The Call of Deaths Clarion" and it kind of reminds me of "The Lord of the Rings". I was kind of expecting a Nazgul to burst into my room all creepy-like. The track lasts for about twelve minutes and forty-eight seconds and was the longest track on the album. It has many change ups when it comes to guitars and drums. There is a part at about 6:31 where he whispers lyrics, and to be honest, it sent chills down my back. It was like a ghost whispered into my ear. There is another vocal effect at about 9:24 where there is an echoed male scream of sorts where the person sounds like they are falling. I found that interesting.
"In the Absence of Light, Death Gazes" doesn't start out slow like the last track. In the beginning it is actually really quick when it comes to drums. Within all this havoc there is a moment of peace and it comes at the beginning of "In Solitude". The way the higher notes over lap the lower notes and the tranquil feel to this beginning definitely got me all trance-like that my body became so incredibly relaxed. It then intensifies by entering in with a buzzed filled distorted guitar. The ascension does not stop there. At 23:19, the rhythm of the guitar changes and the vocals and quick paced drumming enter. There is some good usage of the piano in this track as well. He gives the piano the spot light at about 24:56 and then for the rest of the track it is accompanied by other instruments.
"Lingering Voidwards" actually has a nice peaceful start to it as well. There is practically no blast beats in this track. The drumming is smooth and slow throughout. The beautiful atmosphere that the guitars create in the beginning of this track are so enthralling, I cannot even describe them.
"Lingering Voidwards" was a vast dark cavern filled with goodies that you'd like in an Atmospheric-Black Metal album. When it came to the drums, at times, it was slow paced, and at other times it was explosive. There was absolutely no clean vocals just growls and screams galore that came from one strength-y vocalist and his talents definitely showed by how diverse they ranged.
