"Breathe In The Water" is KYNG's third full-length album and released by Razor & Tie Records. The album consists of fourteen tracks, at a length of about fifty minutes, and two of those tracks being interludes. The band is from Los Angeles, California, and formed in 2008. Their previous albums are "Trampled Sun" and "Burn The Serum."
"Breathe In the Water", the second track, was groovy and it reminds me of swing music. The double bass and drumming seem to be a big part of what makes this sound different than the rest of the songs on the album. I've always had this appreciation for the sound that rockabilly/psychobilly gives off. This is one of those songs that portray that vibe and it does it extremely well. It also had the elements of a metal rhythm and a Bluesy solo.
A much slower track from the album is track five, "Show Me Your love". It's easy going and sing-able. The vocals to the chorus are very smooth to begin with and then become aggressive towards the end, which gives it an emotional edge. "The Beginning of What Was" is an interlude at one minute and fifty-seven seconds. There are no drums or bass, acoustic guitar only. If I'm not mistaken, it is more than one acoustic guitar playing. Working in harmony, one picking notes and the other is hitting chords, at times both are sharing picking or chording to emphasize a part of this much too short piece. It was so lovely I wish it was longer, it gives off a majestic feel.
The riff in the beginning of "The Battle of the Saint / Lines" has this mischievous feel to it, as do the lyrics (later realized), and then it transitions into an aggressive rhythm with quick drumming and heavy guitar. "Not Enough" has this very happy but sad vibe to it. There is this Up-beat guitar playing and drumming with heart breaking lyrics. The feeling you get is as though it's the end of something but also a new beginning, although it is not the last track, it would have been a fitting ending. The last track is actually "What I'm Made Of / Reckoning Part 2". The chorus is catchy, rebellious, after getting you pumped up to begin with, it comes to a slow down towards the end. It almost makes you want to pull out your lighter and praise the heck out of all the great energy this album brought forth.
Right from the beginning to the end, this album is a fantastic experience of the ear and mind, never to be forgotten. When it comes to genre, there was a little of this and little of that, it was very creative, original, and made my soul devour it all too easily and willingly. The lyrics were deep and meaningful. As for the guitars, there was very distinct rhythm in each track, differing them from one another. It was as though you were meeting a different personality each time. Without the drums and bass, this greatness could not be. "Breath In The Water" is a superb album!
