King Hiss - Mastosaurus album cover

"Mastosaurus" is the second full length release from "King Hiss", A Stoner Metal/Rock Band Formed in 2012. "Homeland" The sounds of the ocean opens the album; guitars soon join heavily distorted giving an almost dystopian tone. Vocals squeeze in-between the instruments slightly hushed yet very audible. The track title is also often repeated cementing the name of this song in your head for later memory. "Tourniquet" thunders in with heavy drums and a solid riff. The vocalist takes a more strong approach on vocals with a loud more sharp delivery. The subject of this song is ever-present war and all things that accompany it are mentioned frequently setting a dark tone which the guitarist happily matches.

"Black Sea, Slow Death" opens with a good old sea shanty; acoustic guitar follows which then abruptly turns electric. Jan Coudron tries his best to sound like a seaman and it works. This song features periodic slowdowns where everything quietness so we can all hear the pirate goodness of the vocals, truly a fun track. "Mastosaurus" the title track starts with a drum beat and whispering in an unknown language which then breaks into a mellow riff and strong vocals. Guitar and drums soon pick up giving this track a hard rock feel. The production on this album is top notch however on this song it stands out the most, subtle background noises are scattered throughout .Guitar is forefront when needed and pulled back when not and vocals are crisp and clear, truly great work.

"Renegade" excellent drumming is now something to expect on the album this track is no exception. Being a heavy slow track the singing and instrument playing must be above average as everything is heard so clearly. Chugging guitars and an inspirational riff drives this track while pitch perfect vocals ride the wave the drummer sets in motion providing a footapping beat. Overall this album stands out on many different levels; the production value is unquestionable good. All the members of "King Hiss" gave there all on this album and it shows throughout. This album is thoroughly enjoyable it borders on excellent.
