Metal maniacs, rejoice! I'm proud to present to you: SEVEN KINGDOMS; signed via Nightmare Records, hailing from the United States of America - performing Power/Thrash Metal, on their fourth album entitled "Decennium". (released on January 30th, 2017)
Since formation in 2007; the quintet in question have three albums behind them. I'm introduced to their fourth "Decennium". When I think of Power Metal; I immediately think of the Kings of Metal: MANOWAR...and when I think of Thrash Metal; the American and German Teutonic Big Four spring to mind almost immediately. What we have here is SEVEN KINGDOMS - implementing the Power Metal might intertwined with ferocious Thrash Metal instrumentations. Female-fronted from vocalist Sabrina Valentine, her dynamic cords range from clean to atmospherically Gothic in high-pitched harmonies and sets the mood for a distinctive evolution in construction. Right off the speakers, "Stargazer" begins "Decennium" and it's your typical Power Metal record with peculiar characteristics that have a lot of differentiates here and there. Consisting of 10 tracks ranging at around 51:35, there's a lot of exciting twists and turns in this production.
"Undying" showcases strong vocalisation and musicianship from dextrous duo Camden Cruz & Kevin Byrd on guitars who formulate intense instrumentation in which makes out for an epic landscape of complex Power Metal & Thrash Metal intrigues. "In The Walls" explores flourishing dexterity and pummelling enticements from powerhouse Keith Byrd on drums & Aaron Sluss on bass, intricately designing an organic aesthetic to the sound production. "The Tale Of Deathface Ginny" is a heavy-hitting crusher; balancing efficient songwriting, galloping with chugs of riffery...formulaic to both sub-genres absolutely. As the album progresses; I am hearing a coincidental balance of vocals that almost mimics Maria Breon from HOLYHELL, probably the best comparison here...it all sounds solid and stellar. "Castles In The Snow" is another stunner, sufficiently providing adept prowess of original and memorable substance incredibly.
"Kingslayer", "The Faceless Hero" & "Neverending" extend the experience with more pleasantly produced material that will undeniably have you fisting the air or banging your head with exquisite force. The guitar solos get more energetic and fiercely adequate to rhythmic elegance; making this listen enlightening and fulfilling. If you are sceptical about Power Metal fused with Thrash Metal; the concluding songs "Hollow" & "Awakened From Nothing" interestingly delivers courageously gritty effectiveness and has so much diverse variety from all musicians. Overall - I enjoyed a not so convoluted jam in which "grew on me" a few songs in as I started getting into it immeasurably, most new discoveries have this effect yet with 2 of my favourite sub-genres mixed into one, it honestly didn't take me too long to appreciate and enjoy. Certainly, this is worth checking out if you are looking for something new in those categories.
