"Sacred Ground", the new album from rock band DARE, is something of a ballad album. This is an album consisting entirely of Rock ballads, much in the style of JOURNEY and BOSTON. There's not really a whole lot more to lead into here besides, ballads.
Now, I hate to be negative, but after the first couple of album, you kind of get the idea of this album. "Home", "I'll Hear You Pray", "Strength", I can sit here and list off all the songs on the album, all there really is to say about it is imagine BOSTON's "Amanda" being ripped off. Now, imagine it being ripped off for every song on an album. The first couple songs, it's alright, ballads are fine and ballads done well are incredible, the problem that "Sacred Ground" suffers from is the fact that it's made up entirely of lacklustre ballads. There's no shift in any of the songs and there's really no emotional draw to any of the songs when they all end up sounding the same. There needs to be something else, a change in tone, you have bands like BOSTON who have "Smokin'" and "Amanda", the difference between those two songs is insane and it's almost hard to tell it's even the same band. After you've heard one song of "Sacred Ground", you've essentially heard them all.
I hate to make it seem like I'm entirely just ripping on a band, but the thing here is that there are SO MANY bands out there fighting for your attention, why waste your time on one that rehashes the same song over and over again to make up an album? Don't, that's basically the point I'm trying to make, don't.
