Thrash and Power come together in this old school Heavy Metal record from WILDHUNT. The new release "Descending" takes hints from some of the best in the business while still sounding completely fresh and new.
The album is full of great riffs and longer songs, taking some of the best sounds from Thrash legends like METALLICA, EXODUS and TESTAMENT as well as some other notable sounds like that of MERCYFUL FATE and early SLAYER. In songs like "Terror Right Below" and "Lifeless Birth" you can really pin the early SLAYER influences in the riffs while the vocals take on a mix of King Diamond, in the way he likes to contrast high falsetto vocals with raspy growls, with Tom Angelripper from SODOM.
WILDHUNT also know how to write some great hooks and catchy tunes, arguably the average song is about 4 minutes where the average WILDHUNT song is about 6 minutes with a couple songs spanning 8 and 9 minutes respectively. One of these songs is "Crystal Deth (U.M.D.)" which is killer from start to end, the song takes on its own being but the chorus is so reminiscent of "Alice In Hell" era ANNIHILATOR. About half way through the song it breaks into a guitar solo that, without being over the top, is awesome and insanely catchy.
WILDHUNT had me sold from the second I turned this record on. Sounding like something new while sounding old, th record sounds like it's straight out of the 80s. Any Thrash or just old Heavy Metal fan should pick up "Descending" as soon as they can, it will not disappoint.
