Creinium - Hallucinosis album cover

Some bands seem to defy genre, and with that we are forced to create an entirely new genre for them to stick in to. Bands like MECHINA and KHONSU come to mind as what would usually fit in to melo-death or black metal, can't quite be placed there due to the unique futuristic and spacey feel that those two bands share. These are the first two bands that come to mind upon hearing CREINIUM, not so much for the futuristic feel, but more for the unique sound that they offer. CREINIUM seem to borrow elements from melo-death, black metal, power metal, and even progressive metal to create their unique hybrid sound. Combining these three genres seems to lead to "Hallucinosis" having an almost fantastical feel to it. Where the afore mentioned bands bring images of epic space battles, and being hunted by an alien respectively, CREINIUM bring about images of gods clashing and earth being scorched. It's violent and incredibly epic music with such a unique feel, that it only makes me wish that more bands could achieve such a special sound.

I had no idea what to expect when "Hallucinosis" started up, with the opening title track being a mellow instrumental that felt like we were about to get in to an album of symphonic or power metal. The cover art of the album helped with that as well. Then the second track starts up and everything changed. Not sure if I was liking where this was headed I stuck with it and I'm so glad that this was the case. The next few tracks were what got me hooked, with an explosive violence that beautifully showed their mastery of blending some of the best genres of metal in to one fantastic and brutal sound. Then came "Passage To And Altered Portrait" with an almost pretty piano opening, changing the feel from a violent battle, to something incredibly dark and haunted, showing more of the black metal rather than death metal here. The next song showed even more versatility with the guitars belonging in power metal, with the vocals in death yet again. "Solarbound Colony" showed more of a prog side to it but yet again with something else to make it special. The rest of the album continued to mix it all up with all four genres perfectly on display throughout it.

I realised I don't quite know who to recommend this band to, so I'm just going to say everyone. Granted, not everyone will like them, but such a unique band should be given a go. It seems silly to say that anyone who likes death metal, black metal, power metal, and progressive metal, should try them out but it's just true. Do yourself a favour and check them out right now.
