Metal maniacs, rejoice! The Thrasher returns to present to you: DJEVEL; signed via Aftermath Music, hailing from Norway - performing Black Metal, and on their 4th album entitled: "Norske Ritualer". Released on November 11th, 2016.
Since formation in 2009; the quintet in question has 3 albums behind them, I'm acquainted with their 4th "Norske Ritualer". A supergroup consisting of infamous quartets such as KOLDBRANN, ORCUSTUS, ENSLAVED & KVELERTAK. Black Metal is underground for a reason; to distinguish itself from trends that wouldn't dare excel at such raw extremity, it's much easier to play it safe in their case. This is what fans and professionals like to imagine the sub-genre as; a genre that is only suitable for those who can handle it. Granted, it most certainly isn't for the faint of heart...and this here record is intended to hit you in the face - or eardrums, with classic Norwegian vibes and promptly adjusted instrumentation that is guaranteed to clear your unjustly fix. Right off the headphones I was struck by a fierce force who declare themselves as an unprecedented band to be reckoned with.
Consisting of T. Ciekals on guitars is quite simply an endless spiral of good riffs which showcase complex dexterity into his contributions to the sub-genre in great length of detail. E. Hjelvik on vocals demonstrates efficient flair of agonizing black screams of death with a captivating intention to blow your mind. Sufficiently evident with the powerhouse of Mannevond on bass and Dirge Rep on drums efficiently pummel the sound production with exquisite force. Using an atmospheric formula for unique Black Metal integrity to ascend beyond its original intention. DJEVEL consistently flourish with epic Songwriting elegant sound production that defines extremity and rawness, as well as an original yet unprecedented band who generally believe in determined hard work with passion to deliver that enjoyable that excruciating (in a good way) experience. This rhythmic BM band has a lot of promise for the veterans; as well as the newbies.
8 tracks ranging at around 49:37. Opening up with "Vi Slagter Den Foerste Og Den Andre, Den Triedje Lar Vi Gaa Mot Nord", "Jeg Maner Eder Alle!!" & "Doedskraft Og Tri Nagler" (ah, typical Norwegian titles) showcase ravenous BM rituals in an old-school tendency to unleash that raw sound with full force. Enticing precedence remains with similar Black Metal artists; yet that alone shouldn't distinguish you from discovering a new piece of art. "Med Christi Legeme Og Blod Under Hoeiere Fod", "Til Mitt Kjaere Norge" & "Med Tornespiger Var Han Haengt" all differentiate with harmonic melodies that chime glorious rhythms while unexpectedly incorporating haunting acoustic segments & ethereal chanting choirs which generates a frantic attack of pummeling elegance. "Maatte Vetter Rase Som Aldrig Foer" & "Afgrunds Engle" close the album with the aforementioned and more; BM veterans really should check DJEVEL out...
...as well as newbies! Simple as that.<
