Lords Of The Cemetery - Citipati album cover

LORDS OF THE CEMETERY is a new project of LCF (VANGUARD X MORTEM). It is created in the old ways of Death Metal and recorded with session drummer Reno Cavadaski (ex. GAIDJINN). This album is for "all fans of DEATH, NOCTURNUS, and DISSECTION with other influences of MORBID ANGEL, CANNIBAL CORPSE, KING DIAMOND, ect. "Citipati" comes in with eight tracks with a listening time of about 32 minutes. Track one "Behind the Portal" is an instrumental opener. It has that born in a cemetery feel that the band happily labels their music. The feel is Doom filled Death. The ringing of church bells, and the playing of low and dark strings that is mixing with the higher strings, create that uncomfortable scene. At the end there is a small spoken portion that comes from the demons themselves.

"Eternal Dance of Death" is an interesting track. The drums are pretty standard blast beat you'd hear in a Death Metal track but there is some uniqueness thrown around in there as well. The guitar riffs show off. They are almost out of place in this track. The vocals are very gritty and almost completely incomprehensible. Track three "Smiling Skeleton" is a little more energetic and not a complete six feet under track. It starts with the ever-noticeable creepy piano beginning. Then it shifts into a smorgasbord of down tuned guitars and blast beats. The interlude at the two-minute mark is pretty different and leads into some of the best guitar work on the album. The title track "Citipati" has an Atmospheric meets Symphonic start that crumbles into the more Death Metal meets Classic Rock feel. This track is one of the more consistence tracks on the album. It shows so much musicianship and intertwines so many different sub genres into one track, but somehow still keeps it tightly wound and complete.

Track seven "Demonic Appearance" is another track that is more energetic and almost Thrash-esque. It isn't my favorite, but I do love the guitar work presented in this track. There is something provocative about it in this track that with stands the overall underwhelming feeling of the track. The final track "We are Them" is a darker track. It compliments the intro intriguingly well. The same demon vocal is present during the track along with the regular gritty vocals. "Citipati" doesn't really fall easily into subgenres. There are tons of attractive Metal options to enjoy for many Metal fans. Sometimes the mix can cause a little transition turbulence, but overall, the album isn't bad at all. Give it go.
