For Cold Shades

This is an album that pulled me in from the first look at its album cover, advertised as Atmospheric Black Metal TIMOR ET TREMOR's new album "For Cold Shades" but Atmospheric is not quite how I would describe it, I would give it more of a Melodic sound. AMON AMARTH meets ENSLAVED sort of Melodic Black Metal.
"Fen Fire" and "Alpha and Omega" keep my argument alive that this is a strong Melodic Black Metal album, full of melodic hooks and raspy Black Metal vocals along with some clean almost spoken word in "Fen Fire". "Alpha and Omega" does have that Atmospheric sound for roughly the first half of the song, along with "The Ghost in All That Dies" but both also break into that more Melodic sound. This is an album that's hard to argue with, the instrumentals are fantastic but at no point take away from the vocals, generally there are no solos and very small breaks between lines. The "spoken word" sections are almost more Mayhem sounding and everyone who supports this album on bandcamp seems to be really into it.
This is an 8 song Black Metal album with different song style but roughly the same sound to keep them connected, whether it be an Atmospheric tone or the old school Raw Black Metal sound, all the songs are connected by that Melodic sound, the album is fantastic from beginning to end and while it takes notes from other bands, it at no point feels like a rip off of any other band. TIMOR ET TREMOR is a great album for any non-elitist Black Metal fan, definitely worth checking out.
