Wayfarer - Old Souls album cover

Metal maniacs, rejoice! The Thrasher returns to present to you: WAYFARER; signed via Prosthetic Records, hailing from the United States of America - performing Atmospheric Black & Folk Metal, and on their 2nd full length album entitled: "Old Souls".

Since formation in 2011; WAYFARER has released a full-length record entitled: "Children Of The Iron Age" (released in 2014) as well as a demo entitled well: "Demo". The quintet in question fuses the atmospheric darkness of Black Metal; while infusing the atmospheric melodies of Folk Metal into one amalgamate package. Exploring their musical horizons to create an abundance of hauntingly accurate yet diversely sonic outraged musicianship comes the sophomore effort that is this here record: "Old Souls". Vast landscapes intrude the eardrums with cohesive songwriting of exquisite proportions; lyrical themes of nature and history combine a ferocious incentive to diversely intensify an utmost uniquely solid tone of doom and gloom imagining. Featuring a healthy amount of post metal elements as well; irrefutably showcases consistently driven aspirations to provide a distinctive blend of precise implementations for musical clarity.

This 4-piece quartet individually depicts a desolate feeling of beautiful yet bleak melodic instrumentation that balances themselves to atmospheric, head nodding grooves. Issac Faulk on drums delivers a tribal experience here and there in which gives a potent blend of distinguished pummeling. Fulfilling genius riffery with both Tanner Rezabek and Shane McCarthy (also on vocals) on guitars scream with destructive ferocity providing a solid backbone that sets the tone for the entire album. Joey Truscelli on bass also adapts his talent that signifies excellent adroitness. It's safe to say that we are dealing with an inquisition that certainly know how to adept and further expand their fulfilling consistency into something untimely unique. With that; 7 lengthy tracks in typical Black Metal fashion, while intimidating the atmospheric landscape of Folk Metal that evidently provides an unprecedented listen for old and new fans alike.

"Ever Climbing" begins with faint melodies in the distance that creates an adverse landscape of desolation where the atmosphere amps up to more tribal destruction in which throttles eardrums in exquisite fruition. The epic "Frontiers" is an instrumental frontal assault that hordes into the sorrowful folk aforementioned "Old Soul's New Dawn". Progressing further into their musical diversity; "Catcher", "Deathless Thundra", and "The Dusk Lakes" feel perfectly composed and strike brilliant balances between heavy yet destructive portions while implementing acoustic elements on top. "All Lost In Aimless Chaos" ends this organic yet solid album in brilliant atmospheric fashion.  Despite some sound production problems that felt a bit distorted; "Old Souls" is most certainly one of the most intriguing listens of 2016, WAYFARER want to attract those who have distinctive tastes in Metal - in which is most definitely worth taking from yours truly.<
