Kill Ferelli - Bastards and Sweethearts album cover

I am always quite wary when I hear about a female fronted band. It seems like some female fronted bands tend to play up the singer's sex appeal to catch the attention of the listeners. Particularly in a genre saturated by young men, and it's admittedly difficult to even detach myself from thinking that way. Sometimes I find that certain bands rely on visual appeal while sacrificing substance. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems to be a trend in within the past decade or so.

The band KILL FERELLI comes from the good old Netherlands and rips with a Pop Rock with an attitude. It can be very Hard Rock, and sometimes verges on the more Heavy Metal side. I have not really been listening to a lot of Rock these last few years but I have many friends that talk about the staples in the Genre. The closest comparison I can give for KILL FERELLI  would be PARAMORE in terms of attitude, and their music is pretty catchy, it's not cheesy and has a lot of great depth. Most of the songs are pretty straight forward, and you can hear a lot of influence from bands like THE GATHERING and LACUNA COIL, the stalwarts of female fronted Rock. Nothing about the album immediately caught my attention and it's not the most memorable album I listened to lately, but it's very catchy and quite worth your time.

The music has a solid base and could benefit from airplay on various Rock stations throughout Europe and maybe here in North America. PARAMORE and THE PRETTY RECKLESS got a lot of airplay on Pop Stations and Rock Radios nonetheless. I think I can safely say that this band is legitimately talented. Kelly Kockelkoren has a wicked voice and a lot of emotion pouring through every song. She holds her own and she has nothing to hide as to talent and energy. This is a solid release and I was pleasantly surprised!
