SCUMDOGZ is a Rock and Roll band based out of Hanover, Germany. Formed in 2012, the band has gained a following for being a good live act, and a sound that would ensue from a collaboration between Angus Young and the late Lemmy Kilmister. Their debut, self-titled album contains twelve tracks. From the opening chords of "Queen of the Scene," I would have to agree with the description of their sound. The riff could easily come from an AC/DC album and the gravely vocals are very Lemmy-esque. Even the structure of the verses and choruses is in line with this sound. "Sell My Soul" is a slower, mid-tempo song that still maintains the simple chord approach to carry the sound. One thing it sure makes it easy to do is sing along. The title track, "Scumdogz," could easily be off of the "Let There Be Rock" album from 1977. The title goes very well with the sound in terms of it being dirty, gritty, blues-tinged Rock and Roll.

"Ladies Last Hope" is a faster paced song fueled by the energy of the guitar riff and steady drumming which holds the beat. The guitar interlude/solo section is thick with wah-wah which perfectly suites the sound. "Bloodbrothers" has plenty of get-up-and-go, and prolific use of the high-hat and ride cymbals, which really make the sound wide open. I would probably feature this song as one of the best on the album. "Gasoline Bitches" is slower in pace but still has plenty of oomph. One thing is for sure; you really cannot help just liking this music. It's like the soundtrack you would want to play on the open road on your Harley Davidson. "See You at your Funeral" builds off of the chugging bass notes which are the constant needed to hold everything together. The attitude of the sound is reflected in the message of the song title.

"Showdown" reminds me of another AC/DC song on the "School or Rock" soundtrack. If you like AC/DC, I don't have any doubt that you will like this album so far. The closing track is called "Wrecking Ball." It's the shortest song on the album but might be the most venomous as well. The pace is about as fast as it could be for the overall sound presented so far, and I picture a well-lit group of fun loving people on a rowdy bar stage, singing along with the band. Overall the sound is as accurate as they describe, and exactly what you would expect. I wouldn't begrudge the album for maintaining purity in style or not throwing any surprises your way, but it does make for a unilateral listening experience. <
