Vantablack Warship
What's up, Metal maniacs? I'm here once again to give you an insight on this Montreal; Metal fuelled Death Metal act: VANTABLACK WARSHIP, independent act.
VANTABLACK WARSHIP unleash their first self-titled EP: "Vantablack Warship", it is a blinding, lava filled Metal rocker. But what makes this band thrash me like a maniac and fist pump like a fool, you might ask? That is simple; they have the integrity of a purely hardcore Death Metal musical intelligence with an edge of added groove to give you that extra boost of power. Yannick "Pil" Pilon on vocals has a very original tone for a band with multiple elements in Metal; i.e., Thrash, Death and Black Metal while implementing in on some fantastic Hardcore intrigues.
Adding onto the powerhouse of extreme Metal; Pat Gordon and Thierry Hivon on the Heavy Metal guitars; explode with ferocity, imploding in on some brilliantly written notes that have a serious rhythm focus that makes sure you enjoy yourself. Let's not forget Kurt Clifford on bass and Pierre Pitre on drums. Everything can be heard and has a fine sound production that makes me want to give this band positive props.
Granted this is just an EP so not much can be said about the songs, although on the contrary; there is plenty to be said, "The Pit" entails in on the Thrash and Death elements I mentioned while keeping that Hardcore vibe with the vocals I mentioned previously. "You'll Burn For This" approaches with a similar ideal but adds a bit of the Black Metal atmosphere as well.
"The 99%" is more like a minute introductory track that didn't have much for me to say honestly, but then "Irreversible Kill" surprises me with more Black Metal atmospheres, VANTABLACK WARSHIP wanted everything good about Metal in one place it seems. "From Silents (silence?) To Haunting Possessions" gave me that Doom Metal-esquire tone, while "Fucked Machine" had everything of the above, being the longest track on the EP.
So; are VANTABLACK WARSHIP original? To an extent, yes, but mostly no. Production quality is average and every instrument can be heard...although memorability-wise; nothing new has been added to the table that we already haven't heard with the greats. The two things I can be positive about is how good "Vantablack Warship" sounds, and how they fused everything we know about Metal into one-alternate being - and that being is VANTABLACK WARSHIP, it really worked well. With not much else to say - why don't you be the judge and see if you think this short (EP) but sweet review makes sense to you or not.
