Sentenced To The Cross
Supreme Carnage

"Sentenced By The Cross" is the sophomore full-length album from old-school Death Metal band SUPREME CARNAGE. This band takes turns filling in the gaping hole for quality, 90's-style European Death Metal that have been currently sitting in the roster of Death Metal acts. Their sound is a heavy, bloody, like a stainless steel chainsaw ripping with sound but with much more control of their speed and rhythm.
How much more clearly can I say this? I loved this album! SUPREME CARNAGE have done a great job at blending together the essences of bands like BOLT THROWER, CARNAGE and BLOODBATH to create a very rich, refined extract of old-school Death Metal. To summarize "Sentenced By The Cross" in one word, it would be 'satisfying'. I was completely satisfied with the production, the catchiness as well as the overall heaviness and satisfied with the delivery of everything else about the music.
Do you know that feeling you get when you finish a huge meal and your head is swimming because every single bite of it was tasty? That same sense of completion from gorging goes along with "Sentenced By The Cross" as well. You can go ahead and but this album in the same arena as records like "Resurrection Through Carnage" "Like An Everflowing Stream" and "Left Hand Path". This album does everything right and just keeps on pushing forward.
There are several catchy songs like "Sentenced To The Cross" and "Right Of Sanctuary". And several of these songs have great melodic lead guitars like "Skin Turns Black" and "Burn For Me". But the really gritty, raw brutality lies within songs like "The Sewerage of God" and "Sodomized". Listening to those two songs let you know that SUPREME CARNAGE isn't false advertising.
The downside to this record is that it really just doesn't anything new. If this kind of music gets too algorithmic, there will nothing stopping Death Metal from becoming as artificial and homogenized as Pop music has become. The ease of reproducing this Swedish Death Metal sound could be troubling to some but otherwise enjoyable to others who don't want to think that hard about it.
Whether you are just beginning to become a fan of Death Metal or you're already a big fan of bands like BOLT THROWER, HYPOCRISY, and DISMEMBER, I can't give a higher recommendation to SUPREME CARNAGE as a good Death Metal band.
