Continents - Reprisal album cover

There is something about the UK that is able to produce great hardcore bands. We are speaking of bands like GALLOWS, NAPALM DEATH, DEAD SWANS, and many more. Along with those acts you can count CONTINENTS, who started making fierce progress in the UK scene with their first album "Idle Hands" in 2013. Their sophomore album "Reprisal", released in October 2015, has been the subject of much praise as well. With the success of their albums and having toured with big names like THE GHOST INSIDE, and there is something about the UK that produces great hardcore bands, bands like GALLOWS, NAPALM DEATH, DEAD SWANS, and many more. Along with those acts you can count CONTINENTS, who started making fierce progress in the UK scene with their first album "Idle Hands" in 2013.

Their sophomore album "Reprisal", released in October 2015 has been the subject of much praise as well. With the success of their albums and having toured with big names like THE GHOST INSIDE and COMEBACK KID it's clear that CONTINENTS are well on their way to solidifying their place in Hardcore fame. "Reprisal" sticks to the roots of early Hardcore with chugging, aggressive riffs and technical, original breakdowns as well as heavy Punk influences. There is also a Post-Hardcore element to "Reprisal", but the album manages to stay away from the 'whiny' vocals and calm instrumental sections many Post-Hardcore bands are known for. The resonance of the Post-Hardcore sound is most noticeable in the tracks "Alone" and the title track, "Reprisal". These two tracks break up the more bellicose aspects of the album but in no way take away from the heavy, ever advancing sound the album produces. This new album seems a bit more subdued than CONTINENTS previous release "Idle Hands" as far as pure aggression is concerned but the instrumentation on "Reprisal" sounds more complicated, definitely showing how much CONTINENTS has matured in just a two-year period.

This especially shows in the guitar work on the track "Scorn" and the unrelenting drums and breakdowns in "The Stand"CONTINENTS are here to stay, their improvements from "Idle Hands" to "Reprisal" are evidence that they will only continue to get better. "Reprisal" is a one-of-a-kind release that will undoubtedly be one of the albums that will be held up as one of the definitive Hardcore albums for years to come. It's clear that CONTINENTS are well on their way to solidifying their place in Hardcore fame.
