Rabid Armageddon
Under The Church

I can just imagine an episode of Metalocalypse with Nathan Explosion trying to come up with this album title, "an Armageddon, that's... ugh... rabid." Nonetheless, UNDER THE CHURCH have released "Rabid Armageddon" with Pulverised Records and it's quite a fancy release. The album art is amazing (can I have a poster/flag of it?) and the music isn't much worse, so that should mean good things!
The album opener "Sodomy and Blasphemy" which is also the first single released from the album, I found to be a bit lacklustre. The song lacked any real power outside of the guitar solo and it made it fall short in comparison to the rest of the album, but it's also the opening track, generally people listen past the opening track... Right?
The album continues with "Rabid Armageddon" and "Triad Ov Inquisitors" both of which are great songs on their own but not very innovative, just straight to the point Death Metal. "Magus" is the strongest song on the album, with heavy, quick instrumentals and vocals that are almost catchy, which is weird for Death Metal. And let's not forget that guitar solo, would be wrong to not mention that awesome guitar solo.
"Suspended In Gore" is a perfect example of what a Death-Doom song should sound like, the instrumentals are pure heavy weight power from the first scream of "Suspended in Gore" to the last bar of the destructive headbanging riff. Here's where contrast comes in, following this Death-Doom track is "Walpurgis Night" an old school Death Metal track opening with quick blasts and a "quicky" guitar solo before any vocals even kick in, not to mention the first verse riif, easily the best riff on this album. What else can I say? This is a good album with some amazing album art, any old school Death Metal fan should pick this up. UNDER THE CHURCH's "Rabid Armageddon" is raw, gritty and fucking powerful!
