Tech-Metal is like some weird beast that has crawled out of the ocean to feast on the dry skins that the land has to offer but forgot to invest in evolving any kind of weaponry to do the job.

What I mean by that rather spurious allegory is that Tech seems to be this evolving style of music that holds such grand things in its sights but falls short of actually doing the job. There are of course bands like MESHUGGAH that have crawled out of the ocean fully equipped and ready to chew up anything that moves but these seem to be in a minority. This may be a relatively controversial point but a very large swathe of the Tech scene seems to be heavily influenced by PERIPHERY and whilst they are good musicians, there is just something fundamentally lacking.

ENFEEBLE unfortunately seem to be heading down the evolutionary line of PERIPHERY but combined with an unhealthy dose of Metal-core. Their most recent album "Moment Of Tranquility" is a good example of why this melding is just not really destined to take over dry land.

The album opens up with excellent force, bludgeoning its way out of the silence before and demanding attention with a riff that would be worthy of any MESHUGGAH pit. The ferocity falls short though almost as soon as the vocals begin.

This is sadly the part where my interest and respect for the music starts to decline. It may be very shallow but I find this style of vocals not only incredibly simplistic but also boring and without any character. The vocals could easily switch out onto any other generic Metal-core or Tech band and they are just forced screams and long drawn out clean notes.

The music behind all of this is, for the most part fantastic. The guitar work is phenomenal and they are clearly incredibly talented. The drums pound along at a blistering pace without much space to breathe and the bass just kind of slots into the rest of the music. The first 30 seconds of "Hypnophobia" are exactly what I felt like this entire album should have been. Deep, dark, brutal and ferocious are just a few words that describe it and this is the kind of tone that this type of music needs much more of.

All in all this is a good album for those that already love this style but if you are looking for something with some balls behind it then I would recommend trying the rear end of a bull instead.
