For The Greater Good

If their first album "From Ashes To Fire" was highly praised all over the world, their homeland, the mighty Sweden was more than receptive to their music, and now is time (for the big challenging task) for the second collection titled "For The Greater Good" which consists of 11 songs in the same strain of quality, clocking at over sixty minutes!
SAFFIRE was born in 2005 when guitarist Victor Olsson and Dino Zuzic united their talent under the same musical dream together as a school band/project .
Their ideal was to form a band based on old school melodic hard rock sound with some Dark atmospheric colors and the mandatory heavy metal edge, the Inner Wound Recordings debut album "From Ashes To Fire" was a great surprise of 2013...And it was a revelation to me notably because of their lead singer but also the inner-strength of their compositions skills.
Clearly I had some serious high expectations regarding this "For The Greater Good" ...Finally all my wishes were fulfilled and even outmatched by such an amount of magical instrumental prowess, sonic competency, devotion and of course gifted performance.
The formidable Swedish vocalist borrowed from EVIL MASQUERADE, Mr. Tobias Jansson (ex-THE LAW) is performing some great vocal parts in "Casters Of The First Stone", possessing all tricks with ease, some multi-layered harmonies are mind-blowing on "Shadowland", he also reveal a strong personality and a fierce interpretation capacity on "The Great Escape" with an impressive intensity in each word that he pronounce giving some additional weight to his lines .
His perfect vocal work is indeed faultless and globally the similarities with SAFFIRE 2013's album "From Ashes To Fire" are numerous, this release is packed with the same density as described before and the same credibility with roots in the 70's without being one of those ingest gimmicks filled revival only outfit ("The Great Escape") ! I believe that the creativity is limitless here, the disc "For The Greater Good" is totally free from some preconception and far from some too orthodox nature, but still right up in the alleys of most Classic headbangers: The intensive use of the Hammond organ gives a more conceptual and some palpable additional dimension on "Ghost Town", the structures expose constantly it's coherent potential, full of sensations from obscure cryptic moments to dramatic variations or tragic moods ...The whole packaged in some arrangements and phrasing a little similar to some contemporary English Proggy mannerism on track like "For The Greater Good" or mostly "Heartless" with the necessity of a constant focus on entertainment but with the high class Scandinavian smartness always at the first row !
Don't be fooled by the name of their new records company, no radio-friendly generic soup here, ultimately this album is obviously more an uplifted Classic Hard Rock (with some multi-facets influences like the catchy "As Promises Burn") than anything else !
Along with MAJOR INSTINCT "Roots & Wings" CD who also contains a forceful Melodic Potential (where Victor Olsson is involved as mixing engineer) both albums are set to be released by the excellent Georg Siegel AOR Heaven label...The perfect combination before the Richie Blackmore's RAINBOW record!
