The Gallows
Deathstorm
DEATHSTORM is an Extreme Metal band based out of Austria. They previously released and EP and a full-length album. This new EP contains four tracks. The songs are brief for the most part, coming in between three and four minutes or so.
I will go through them track by track since there are only four of them. "Consummate Horror" is the opening song. Fast in pace, it has a Thrash Metal feel to it from the main riff. The vocals are shouted in higher ranges and with a gravely delivery. This could be early SLAYER, especially considering the independent type of feeling from the production, even know they are on a record label.
"From Oblivion" is even quicker and with a bit more going on sonically. The fast burst of vocals almost give the song a Punk Rock quality, though not from the instrumentation. There is a change over to a slower, more deliberate riff around the half way mark, and then it circles back to madness at the end.
"Burial Ritual" opens more slowly and with suspense. The vocals are more anguished than before, especially when the pace picks up a bit with an alternating riff. A spastic guitar solo carries the song to fruition. The final track is called "Massgrave." We hear the pace pick up again, featuring some drumming pyrotechnics. I'd be interested enough to hear their previous full length album for comparative purposes.
This EP is honest, straightforward, old-school Thrash, seemingly aimed at the more brutal side of the genre and coming at you to pound you into submission.
