Man As Plague - Aftermath album cover

Everybody has their preferences: they hate one thing, love one thing, it's an everyday practice. Unfortunately MAN AS PLAGUE falls into a musical genre that I just don't particularly care for. So the focus of this particular review is to try and give an unbiased judgement. Honestly, I'm right in the middle with this one. I didn't hate it, but didn't love it.

Opening the album is a vocal intro, where a female voice is talking about what I assumed to be her alcoholic father, or a boyfriend or something. This intro track really conveys what the album is about. Yes, it's actually a positive message hidden in the brutal Deathcore sound. Which is one of the things I do actually like about the album. There is a sense of raw brutality to the music, which is both a good and a bad thing. Where brutality is always awesome, when you go straight brutal, you don't leave much room for variation. Not all of the songs the same, but they all have that same feel to them.

There is a beautiful instrumental track "Beautiful Sin" which honestly is my favorite song on the whole album. It's about half the length of all the other songs, which average around 2 minutes. As far as the musicianship goes, it's right on. The guys synchronize great, and the different instruments mesh together just fine. But again, I'm just not a fan of Deathcore and Metalcore, though for those who are into those genres, I believe that you will enjoy this album just fine.

So as we draw to a conclusion, I've decided to rate this album right in the middle. For you Metalcore fans, don't take this rating as a statement that the band sucks, because as musicians I don't think they suck, but I'm just not a fan of their style.
