Suicide Watch - Global Warning album cover

Brutally honest, Thrash metal was always out to rule the world. From its legions of greasy-hair bums to its jeans and spike armor, the 80s movement never died for its chunky riffs and sharp shreds have battled their way through modern music to this day. Angered with society, the outsiders would get together and spat out wicked tunes fueled with unique rapidity and skills. This time, from the English lands of United Kingdom, rises a typically straight-to-the-face, moshpit-your-brains-out kind of band. SUICIDE WATCH, formed in 2003, aim to recreate the essence of metal's beginning through huge, old school influences such as METALLICA, EXODUS, TESTAMENT and KREATOR. Heavy but fast, aggressive and panicked all at once, their debut record ''Global Warning'' depicts a political, economical and social apocalypse combined. Brace yourselves.

Stinging and razor-edged, a high pitch guitar tears the sanity apart in a second, introducing a rapid, abrasive kind of Thrash. Old school for its driven riffs and frantic rhythms, there's a modern flavor to the heavy breakdowns and the bouncy effects behind the drum/bass tone. As the line is rather thin between 80s thrash and modern imitation, SUICIDE WATCH still blend accordingly to the roots of the movement, but core elements can be found into the high and puked out vocals. With a structure of mad energy, authentic skills and relentless riffs, wicked solos are blasted with ferocity and power throughout the entire record, while poundings of percussion, tempo shifts, thick layers of aggression and solid skills will best guide you through a universe where time is up. Scratched out and harsh sounding, the flayed tone rips your eardrums open and plunge you into a brash nature, while the dynamism behind it all can literally be grasped. Crazed, and livid, the record falls into the traditions of the genre, reflecting the products of old-school bay area thrash, but maybe also with a pinch of HAVOK, a modern thrash quartet with the very same high pitched, stressed out, screamed out vocals.

Furious, rapid... Efficient. That is the key, voilà the spirit behind thrash. Armed by violent shreds and hellish wailings, ''Global Warning'' is generally abrupt and crude, backed by great hammering instrumentals and a sens of authenticity and fervor. The deep, vibrant, profound heaviness soothes you in a way you never thought thrash metal could, and the memorable ardor behind the general record reflects the best work of a strong musicianship. Politicized, the record fuels with angry critiques of many social issues in our modern world, making it stand out for its philosophy and message... Or simply for its pure honesty. Take example of the wise words yelled in the eponymous track: «Fuck the police, fuck the government! They never gave us what we want!». Let that sink in. Ain't it just the kind of hateful piece of metal one needs?

And so, through drum rolls and feedback, headbanging riffs and mind blowing solos, the 80s spirit lives once again, back for a relentless attack. There's no need to say it, the golden days may be over, but the movement is still as passionate. Clearly, bands in SUICIDE WATCH's vein have a mission, and they are ready to succeed at all costs. There's no possible way of stopping 'em so sit yourself, chug your beer and bow down to the art of Thrash.
